In with the Old... Out with the New
Rooms

A Serene Saturday

While not lucky enough to sleep in any longer than the rest of the week, Saturday mornings still bring on a more calming sense to most people.  Today I’m focusing on a bedroom designed by Mariette Himes Gomez that is the definition of serene.  I’ve kept this room in my mental file for years.  Pardon the image quality of this bedroom photo. I snapped it out Mariette’s book, Houses.  If you love this photo, I highly suggest you purchase her book!  It is inexpensive and full of images that you definitely cannot find on Pinterest.

Mariette Himes Gomez is one of my all time favorite Interior Designers.  While trends come and go, and wallpaper goes up and gets scraped down, the work of Mariette Himes Gomez remains forever timeless.  The calm sense that comes over me when I page through her books reminds me that a room does not have to shout to be heard.  A very special thing that Mariette does with her work is to focus on displaying collections.  This is big part of why I love her.  She takes the simplest of collections and makes them appear as important as hanging Picassos.  I’ll be sure to highlight some more of her work in upcoming posts.

This bedroom just makes me want to dive in that bed or sit in one of those chairs and kick my feet up on that little footstool.  Don’t underestimate a small and low footstool… they accomplish just as much relaxation as a huge ottoman.  The canopy is stunning and the framed foliage is a large simplistic statement.  The mirror is placed perfectly to continue to reflect the beautiful space.  When you carefully observe this room, it has every bedroom necessity you would need while allowing you to keep calm, and carry on.  Until Monday! ~GG
