I’d love share this story about my living room because it hopefully may inspire you to start decorating your home on any budget. This room cost less to decorate from top to bottom than most people spend on a new sofa. It takes patience and an eye for nice things but when you live in or near a community of old homes it does make it easy to find second hand. The new items in this room are the rug (rifle paper from home goods), a Horchow painting, a fireplace screen and bamboo shades from JC Penny. Otherwise, Opaline lamps from thrift stores, my grandmothers beautiful Asian lamp was a family heirloom, furniture from resale and marketplace and drapes from a neighboring estate sale. Even the Elkins loop chair was from Craigslist. Both sofas were not recovered, just cleaned. I recovered the loop chair myself.
High quality paint and a unique color are such an easy way to add an expensive feel!
Things are imperfect in this room, lived in, gouged and knicked. Our self paint job is not perfect. But the room has a point of view and I believe that is more important than feeling like you either have to have perfection or nothing at all!
Please know good design does not have to come from a catalog or put you in debt! Buy the best of what you can afford and be patient the rest will follow 💚
