Whimsical Décor: Jean Roger Frogs

A key element to a chic and sophisticated room that still feels authentic is making sure to incorporate something with a little humor. After all, what is life without a little laugh? Even better, is when you find something that stands right on the line where whimsy meets sophistication.

Nothing could be more chic then the ceramic studio of Jean Roger in Paris. Jean Roger founded his studio in 1947 and it didn’t take so long after that for his ceramics to gain popularity. By the 1960’s anyone who was anyone, wanted a Jean Roger Frog (among other ceramic objects). What I love most about this ceramic fairy tale is that while Jean Roger’s health has not allowed him to continue working, his son, Francois, in 2007 committed to continuing the family legacy of creating beautiful ceramics.

I was introduced to the resurgence about a year ago when KRB out of NYC posted the fun picture as shown above, on their Instagram Account (by the way, if you don’t already follow them you are missing out!) I admit, I first saw the frogs and thought, “ya they are really cute!!”  Are they $550+ cute?  After some soul searching I decided, yes, they are actually that cute. Those eyes!? How could you say no to those eyes.

Not long after, I started seeing them popping up on sites like 1stDibs and Chairish…

Green Ceramic Frog Planter - Image 1 of 6

Soooo you can imagine the look on my face when I found this little guy!  While not authentic Jean Rogers, this beautiful white frog is marked “Made in Italy”. I assume that some crafty Italian decided to make there own version and I believe they did a wonderful interpretation!  If you love these little frog planters as much as I do, shop the one below here!  Until next time ~GG
