Anthropologie Inspired Room

Have you noticed lately things aren’t so square in home décor? Although I should never say never, it is highly unlikely a serpentine sofa would find its way into my living room.  But I also didn’t think I’d ever wear high wasted jeans and here I sit…..

This Mid-Century Modern craze that just keeps getting more prevalent is coming around in all kinds of ways.  First sofas started to get lower, then their skirts disappeared (yikes!), now it seems like pillows are optional and lately shapes are getting all curvy.

I have to admit, if I was channeling my inner Marlow Thomas circa That Girl, I’d probably want to decorate my city condo exactly as shown on the cover of the Anthropologie House and Home /Fall 2017 Catalog (pictured above).

Thinking back to my 20s (ahem… not very long ago…) I wouldn’t be able to afford the 10K plus this dreamy room would cost. But I would have wanted it anyway and would have made it happen by finding all things vintage to get the same look.  It was pretty easy to recreate this look and it comes in and half the cost of Anthropologie.

In the process of sourcing all things vintage, I learned a ton about American furniture designer, Vladimir Kagan.  Vladimir Kagan was best known for “rounding off the edges of contemporary furniture”.  He wanted his furniture to be comfortable and allow you to experience the room from many different angles.   Maybe one end of the sofa is near the fireplace while the other one is near the TV.  All you have to do is slide on down.  It really makes sense and the more I read about it, the more I bought into it.  Then I started to realize, I’ve never experienced a Vladimir Kagan serpentine sofa.  I’ll be adding that to the list of things to do.  Who knows… just maybe it will end up in our house one day.  Until Tomorrow ~GG
